Cryptocurrency

A cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency that uses cryptography for security and operates on a decentralised, peer-to-peer network called a blockchain.

Cryptocurrencies are not regulated by central authorities, which makes them immune to government control and manipulation. Transactions are verified and recorded on the blockchain by network participants called miners, who are rewarded with new coins or transaction fees. 💻

Bitcoin, created in 2009 by an unknown person or group using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, is the first and most well-known example of a cryptocurrency.

Fun fact: The smallest unit of Bitcoin is called a "Satoshi," named after its creator. One Satoshi is equal to 0.00000001 Bitcoin. So, it would take 100 million Satoshis to make one Bitcoin! 🪙💡
