FTSE 100

The FTSE 100, also known as the Financial Times Stock Exchange 100 Index, is a stock market index that tracks the performance of the 100 largest companies by market capitalisation listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).

It is considered a leading benchmark for the UK stock market and provides a snapshot of the country's overall economic health. 🇬🇧

For example, the FTSE 100 includes well-known companies like BP, AstraZeneca, HSBC, and Unilever.

Fun fact: The name "FTSE" is derived from the combination of the Financial Times newspaper and the London Stock Exchange, which originally jointly created the index in 1984. Today, FTSE Russell, a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group, manages the index. Since its inception, the FTSE 100 has become one of the most widely followed indices in the world. 🌍
